Platform: “Bending the Arc of History Toward Justice.” On July 31, 2016, Dr. Carolyn Parker, Chair of the Ethical Society of Austin’s Ethical Action Committee, presented a platform which provided a report on the use of the “arc of history” theme at the American Ethical Union‘s 101st Annual Assembly in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Parker discussed the Elliott-Black Award and the 2016 honoree: Millennial Activists United. Her presentation provided an in-depth analysis of the AEU’s Resolution to End Systemic Racism in the US, adopted by the membership on July 17, 2016, followed by a brief summary of the platform address (podcast) by Kate Lovelady, Ethical Society of St.Louis‘ Leader, with the same title. The last section of Dr. Parker’s platform addressed plans to amplify this “Justice Theme” in programming throughout Fall, 2016, and reminders of immediate action that can be taken–as individuals–to the AEU resolution on systemic racism.
